A new position for an administrative officer to oversee development of the Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter may be created by Donegal County Council.
Cllr Tómas Seán Devine called for the creation of the new role at the Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting.
The 100% Redress Party member told council members that the role would focus on continuing the development and regeneration of the Cathedral Quarter. He praised the “tremendous work” already done by the group
The motion outlined: “The role will mirror and enhance the existing structure and provide continuity and certainty to oversee, coordinate, and support the ongoing development and delivery of the Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter project and will ensure the ongoing success for this vital and internationally recognised project.”
It was seconded by Cathaoirleach Gerry McMonagle, who called the regeneration project “ambitious and energetic.”
He said: “The regeneration of heritage in the Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter is worth acknowledging and recognising.”
Seamus Canning, Area Manager, Housing and Corporate, said: “The Council wishes to acknowledge the great work of the Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter Group.
“The Council has engaged extensively with the Group during the project development phase of the Cathedral Quarter Park, including the Creative Hub facility. This will continue as the Council progresses the project through to full implementation.

“As part of the implementation process, the Council will be looking to put the necessary structures in place in terms of the business and operational arrangements that will ensure that the development operates on a sustainable basis. This will include the staffing levels required to support this outcome. At this stage, it is premature to give any commitment to any particular post in this regard.”
