Residents in Donegal have made nearly 1,700 claims for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme as a result of Storm Éowyn in January 2025.

In figures provided by the Department of Social Protection, it was revealed that 1,696 claims were made by Donegal residents out of 93,007 claims made nationally, totalling €12.8 million for the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme that was opened after the extensive damage caused by Storm Éowyn.

Donegal had the 11th most claims out of all the 26 counties that were eligible for assistance. Galway had the highest amount of applications with 30,592, followed by Mayo with 17,303 and Roscommon with 8,702 applications. 

At the other end of the table were Waterford with 12 applications and Kilkenny with 14, showing how the southeastern parts of Ireland were less affected than the west.
