Book of Evidence served on Quigley’s Point man accused of assault causing harm

The Book of Evidence was served on the defendant Dermot Doherty at Buncrana Courthouse.

An Inishowen man faces a Circuit Court case over an alleged assault in Carndonagh almost three years ago.

Dermot Doherty, of Tenfoot Road, Drung, Quigley’s Point, is charged with assaulting Shay McLaughlin, causing him harm, at Tul Na Ri, Carndonagh on September 18, 2022.

The Book of Evidence was served upon Mr Doherty (38) at Carndonagh District Court, which continues to sit at Buncrana Courthouse.

The case was then adjourned to allow time for his defence team to consider whether or not to send him forward to Letterkenny Circuit Court on a signed plea of guilty.

Garda Christopher McGinley gave evidence in the matter, informing Judge Eiteain Cunningham how he had served the Book of Evidence on the defendant Dermot Doherty at Buncrana Courthouse on July 15, 2025 at 10.25am.

Judge Cunningham noted that the Book of Evidence has been served and she adjourned the case until the next sitting of Carndonagh District Court on September 16.

Mr Doherty’s solicitor Annemarie McCrystal indicated that her client is considering going forward on a signed guilty plea.

She also applied for Legal Aid in the matter; however, Judge Cunningham said an application could be made for Legal Aid at a later date, once a statement of means has been filed.
