Businesses at the Donegal Craft Village, Killybegs, Ardara, and Letterkenny have been named amongst the Irish Independent’s 100 best independent shops in Ireland.
The 100 best independent shops list has been drawn up for its fourth year, featuring local pottery shops, crafts, delicatessens, and fashion was celebrated in Donegal.
Kevin Callaghan Pottery in Donegal Town’s Donegal Craft Village, Wild Atlantic Crafts in Killybegs, The Counter in Letterkenny, and Tríona in Ardara were all highlighted in the list.
Award-winning artist Kevin Callaghan’s premise was described as being a “cute shop” where “you can watch Callaghan at the potter’s wheel and finishing his elegant homeware with his signature expressions.”

Wild Atlantic Crafts in Killybegs was praised for having “a killer selection of locally made items,” with a “solid jewellery collection.”
The Counter in Letterkenny was said to have an “extensive selection of worldwide wines and craft beer” with a “well-priced mix of crowd-pleasers and curiosities.”
Finally, the heritage of Tríona in Ardara was highlighted, as it was commented that the shop took “a contemporary approach to Irish craftsmanship, updating classics like the Aran jumper,” whilst “paying homage to Ireland’s roots” and being “Sarah Jessica Parker approved.”
