The stump of the oak tree that remains at Ballyraine this morning
An oak tree in Ballyraine in Letterkenny has been cut down overnight, despite a campaign to save it.
Active Travel works included the removal of vegetation to make way for greener, sustainable transport paths, which were met by opposition locally. Ribbons had been pinned to the tree with a poem entitled Please Save Me.
A petition gathered in the region of 1,650 signatures since last October; however, last night, the 90-year-old sessile was removed between Ballyraine Park and Orchard Grove.
