Speeding fines in Inishowen are on the increase, with excessive speed still a major factor in many serious road traffic collisions.
Motorists caught speeding in Inishowen have paid almost €60,000 in speeding tickets over the past two-and-a-half years.
New figures released by Garda District reveal how speeding Inishowen drivers paid €22,480 in fines in 2023, €29,840 in 2024, and €5,920 through the first five months of this year.
During that same timeframe – from January 1, 2023 until June 8, 2025 – motorists in County Donegal have been fined a total of just under €1 million.
The Letterkenny Garda District has accounted for more than half of all fines in Donegal, with €581,360 in speeding fines.
The number of speeding offences in the Letterkenny District has increased massively in 2025, likely as a result of the new static speed camera erected last December along the N13 between Newtowncunningham and Manorcunningham, which has caught out many Inishowen motorists too.

In total, €997,360 worth of speeding fines was collected across the four Donegal Garda Districts, with Letterkenny accounting for 58.3 percent of the county’s total.
The Ballyshannon District ranked second in the county, with fines totalling €300,000, followed by Buncrana [€58,240] and Milford [€57,760].
Nationally, just over €32.4 million has been collected in fines from Garda speed vans between January 2023 and June 8, 2025.
Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, who obtained the figures, has called for a get-tough approach to those who are caught doing excessive speeds on our rural roads.
