Buncrana Children’s Charity is proud to announce the first in a series of free awareness events across Inishowen, beginning with a Cyber Safety Workshop for parents and guardians of teenagers.
The event will take place this Wednesday, 10th September at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Hall, Buncrana.
The charity says the inspiration for the event came following the release of the powerful Netflix drama ‘Adolescence’ earlier this year, which shed light on the hidden dangers and challenges young people face in today’s digital age.
For the BCC committee, it’s a timely reminder that while technology connects us more than ever, it also creates risks that parents need to be aware of.
The workshop, delivered in partnership with CyberSafe Kids, is designed to give parents the confidence and knowledge to guide their children through the online world. It will cover practical tips on how to keep teens safe, how to spot potential risks, and how to start important conversations at home.

Tanya McLaughlin, BCC Health and Wellbeing Officer, explained: “We all use the internet every single day, but the reality is most of us don’t fully understand the consequences – both positive and negative. With the rise of new trends and the easy access teenagers now have to advanced tools like AI, it has never been more important for parents to stay informed.”
Treasurer Tina Duncan added: “This is about giving parents peace of mind and equipping them with tools and awareness. The online world is constantly changing, and we want to make sure families are ready for the challenges ahead.”
Public Relations Officer Amanda Nelson continued: “This workshop is just the beginning. Buncrana Children’s Charity is planning a series of events across Inishowen this year, each focusing on important issues affecting young people and families.”
The Cyber Safety Workshop is particularly recommended for parents or guardians of secondary school-aged children, as well as teachers, youth workers, and anyone working closely with teenagers.
