The Donegal ISPCA Animal Rehabilition Centre at Ballyare
The Committee and village of Dúchoraidh have labelled plans for the proposed closure of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) in Donegal as “inhumane” and have called for local support.
The ISPCA and DSPCA (Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are merging to form a single national animal welfare organisation called the National SPCA, to be operational by October 1, which would lead to the closure of the Donegal centre at Ballyare.
“The Committee and village of Dúchoraidh and surrounding areas strongly object to the proposed closure of the Donegal ISPCA, Dr Andrea Redmond, Cumann na Forbairtha na Dúchoraidh, said.
“Our committee recently benefited from their valuable support in dealing with a colony of feral cats, which we trapped and had neutered. Each of our committee members have dealt with the Centre in a personal capacity and have seen first-hand the excellent work that Denise McCausland and her staff do.

“Rescue centres are literally on their knees dealing with abandoned and abused animals. If the Centre closes, the issue will become inhumane.
“Once again, we see valuable infrastructure in Donegal closed by faceless Dublin bureaucrats. These need to be stopped immediately and local agencies and elected reps need to voice their opposition. Please support us in lobbying to retain the Donegal ISPCA.”
