A new volunteer-led initiative, SISTERS – Doing It For Themselves, has been established in Donegal to provide emotional, social, and practical support, as well as vital information, to women and their families by Local Youth & Family Service (LYFS)

The first project of its kind in Donegal, SISTERS offers a safe and inclusive space where women can connect, share experiences, and access peer and professional support. The group is designed to empower women while promoting intercultural understanding and stronger community cohesion.

The project is committed to ensuring equal access to resources and services while also advocating for women and families on key issues such as health, housing, education, and employment. It seeks to provide support through peer dialogue, facilitated sessions, and professional counselling when required. Working in collaboration with local statutory, community, and voluntary organisations, SISTERS will also host workshops, training opportunities, and cultural celebrations. By encouraging participation in community activities and events, the group hopes to strengthen social connections and well-being for women and their families.

A WhatsApp group has been created to connect members and share information. Women and families interested in joining the SISTERS network can get in touch by contacting 089-9672956.
