"Exaggerated accounts of the unusual behaviour of a visitor at the 8am Mass at the Cathedral this morning have circulated on social media," St Eunan's Cathedral posted. "A person who did behave unusually was asked if they needed assistance, after which they left of their own accord and without incident."
When queried at lunchtime, An Garda Síochána said they have not received any reports of any incident. Parishioners present at the Mass say the experience was "frightening" with a man having entered the Cathedral, shouting as he made his way to the altar and tampering with the collection baskets. Monsignor Kevin Gillespie was praised for his cool-headedness in handling the situation.
