Legendary US band to perform in Buncrana as part of Tip O’Neill Award celebrations

Three Dog Night will perform at Buncrana Cinema on Thursday, October 16. The band's lead singer Danny Hutton is set to receive one of this year's Tip O'Neill Diaspora Awards the following night.

Donegal County Council says it’s delighted to announce that legendary American rock band ‘Three Dog Night’ will perform in Buncrana next month, with additional concerts planned for Dublin and Belfast.

The landmark show will coincide with the presentation of the Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora Award to Danny Hutton, founding member and lead vocalist of the band, who hails from Buncrana.

The Tip O’Neill awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 17, at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel.

Buncrana’s selection as one of the Government’s Night-Time Economy Pilot Towns highlights the town’s commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and culturally rich after-dark experiences. This special performance perfectly exemplifies the vision of that initiative – bringing music, community pride, and economic vitality to the heart of Buncrana.

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Paul Canning, said: “Danny Hutton’s return with Three Dog Night is an extraordinary moment of pride for Buncrana and for Donegal. It is not only a celebration of his international achievements, but also a perfect example of how our Night-Time Economy initiative can bring life, culture, and music into the heart of our community.”

“Hosting a band of this stature in Buncrana demonstrates the ambition we have for our town centre after dark, and it will leave a lasting legacy of confidence in what Buncrana can achieve,” Cllr Canning added.

Sophie Gallagher, Buncrana’s Night  Time Economy Advisor, said the event captures exactly what the Night Time Economy pilot is all about.

“It’s about creating memorable, inclusive experiences that make people excited to come into town after dark. Having Three Dog Night perform here in Buncrana, as part of Danny Hutton’s homecoming, will inspire our community and businesses to keep thinking big about what’s possible for our town at night. Hosting such a significant event in the historic Buncrana Cinema further establishes it as an upcoming music venue, in the heart of the town.”

Meanwhile, the Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora Award recognises individuals of Irish heritage whose global achievements are bolstered by a continued connection to Donegal. This year’s recipients include Danny Hutton, Vincent Keaveny, and Eileen & Seán Donaghey.
