Donegal Minister of State, Charlie McConalogue, has paid tribute to the local An Post workers for the excellent work they do throughout the county.

Speaking following visits to An Post’s centres in Letterkenny and Burnfoot, the Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy said: “The delivery of parcels has become a big part of An Post’s business, with Letterkenny handling an average of 100,000 parcels per month which equates to 1.2 million on a yearly basis.

“An Post staff have always been a vital part of life in Ireland, and they service the communities so well. It was great to get a tour of the facilities in Letterkenny and Burnfoot, to talk with staff members and hear how practices are constantly improving and advancing.”

“It’s important that An Post workers have the capacity to adapt to a changing customer demand. The opening of the new centre in Burnfoot is a significant investment in the future of An Post in Inishowen.

“A total of 29 An Post mails staff are sharing the new premises in Burnfoot including 11 from Carndonagh, seven from Buncrana, five from Moville and four from Muff. This investment will ensure that An Post staff are well equipped to continue to service households across the county now and into the future.

“For a number of years, An Post have been upgrading local mail delivery operations nationwide. These custom-fitted delivery offices enable An Post to provide a better quality and more efficient service for customers.

“They also provide better working conditions for staff and adequately meet the logistical, health and safety, fleet and security requirements of the modern-day business."

Noting that An Post have the largest EV fleet in Ireland and one of the largest in Europe, he added: “Two trucks based in Donegal are HVO powered while the fleet in Letterkenny has 40 EVs and two e-trikes. All 20 vans working out of Lifford are also EVs, while the total of EVs in Donegal is 70.”
