The woman was driving a 2013 Nissan Micra when the guards flagged up the vehicle for no insurance.
A Carndonagh woman, who drove without insurance or a licence, has been fined a total of €900 in court and banned from driving for a period of two years.
Saskia McGeoghegan, of 18 Ard Chlocher, Carndonagh, faced a series of charges, including driving without insurance and driving without a licence, as well as failing to produce the documents to gardai.
The 25-year-old did not appear before Carndonagh District Court to answer the charges, but Judge Brendan O’Reilly ruled that the case could proceed in her absence after he was shown proof that she had been notified.
Garda Noelle Magee was sworn in to give evidence in the case.
She said she had been on mobile patrol at Station Road, Carndonagh on the morning of Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 9.20am, when she observed a 2013-registered vehicle, a blue Nissan Micra.
Garda Magee conducted a check on the Garda ANPR [Automatic Number Plate Recognition] device, and it came back that there was currently no insurance registered to the vehicle.
Garda Magee spoke to the driver, who identified herself as Saskia McGeoghegan.
The driver was cautioned about the offence and asked if she had insurance and she replied that she did not.
Garda Magee then made a lawful demand for her to produce her driving licence, however Ms McGeoghegan also admitted that she didn’t have a licence. She signed the guard’s notebook in acknowledgement of the offences.
The court was told that Ms McGeoghegan has no previous convictions.

Judge O’Reilly noted the evidence and the fact that the defendant failed to appear before court. He imposed a two-year disqualification and a fine of €500 on the charge of driving without insurance.
The judge imposed another fine of €200 for the offence of driving without a licence.
Ms McGeoghegan was fined an additional €100 for failure to produce her insurance documents, and €100 for failing to produce her driving licence.
She has been given six months to pay the €900 total, with recognisance fixed at €300 cash in the event of an appeal.
