Killybegs Coast Guard confirms they recovered a man's body on Thursday in Donegal

Killybegs Coast Guard has confirmed they located a body on Thursday in south-west Donegal.

A missing man was reported that afternoon and Killybegs Coast Guard led the search and said they located the missing person, who had entered the water at Malinmore, deceased.

"On Thursday at 14.28 hrs Killybegs Coast Guard were tasked by Malin Head Coast Guard to reports of a missing person at Malinmore," they  posted.

"After a short search the missing person was located deceased. We would like to thank all those who assisted us at the scene. Rescue 118 National Ambulance Service (NAS) An Garda Síochána Donegal and all the locals who helped out in the search.
We wish to express our sincere condolences to the deceased person's family."

It is the second tragedy in the county in recent days. On Thursday, the alarm was raised when an empty boat ran aground at Cliffoney, Co Sligo, with the engine running. A major search ensued, involving two helicopters, several RNLI and Coast Guard crews, and numerous local vessels.

While the search focused largely on the Mullaghmore area of Donegal Bay, it also included an extensive stretch of water and coast, reaching to the wider Killybegs area and Sliabh Liag area and on Saturday there recovery of a body, later learned to be that of Kevin McCloskey, off Teelin.
