'Hopefully this time it will be a forever home' for second-time rescue dog Toby

Animals in Need have had another busy week with the animals in their care

When an animal is rescued and rehomed by Animals In Need (AIN), the relationship does not end when the animal leaves their foster home.

The volunteers at AIN continue to offer back up support and are delighted to receive updates on how the animals are getting on in their new lives.

Sometimes, for one reason or another, a new home does not work out, and AIN always takes adopted animals back into their care.

Unfortunately, a collie called Toby was returned to AIN this week.

Toby had been hand-reared by an AIN fosterer along with his siblings at the beginning of this year and all the puppies were found homes.

However, due to his owner developing health issues, Toby is now back with AIN.

This lovely young dog, who is still only a pup, will be found a new family in due course and hopefully this time it will be a forever home.

AIN rescues dogs from the Letterkenny Pound on a regular basis, fosters and assesses them and then finds them suitable homes, but due to the continuing crisis regarding unwanted dogs in Donegal, AIN is also helping people to rehome their dogs privately.

The charity has a limited number of rescue places, which are continuously filled and are mainly for emergency cases, but by helping with private rehoming, they can assist whilst the dog stays with their original owner until a suitable new home is found.

This week AIN are looking for a fantastic home for two beautiful St Bernard dogs.

The dogs are an eight-year-old mother and her three-year-old daughter.

Both dogs have lovely, gentle personalities, get along with other dogs and would suit a home with older children.

Ideally, the dogs would like to be rehomed together, but they can be rehomed separately if necessary.

Both dogs will be spayed before rehoming,

If you are interested in offering a home to either, or both, of these dogs, please contact AIN for further information.

AIN’s cat rescuers have had another busy week, with no end in sight to this year’s Kitten Season.

The latest arrivals were three little kittens suffering from cat flu and severe eye infections.

Sadly, finding kittens in this condition is common at this time of year, as the days become colder and damper.

The siblings are responding to treatment, but one kitten has sustained permanent eye damage and only time will tell if any of the kitten’s sight can be saved.

AIN has rescued a number of injured and sick cats this week, including a cat with an injury to the base of her tail, a male cat who was found limping, a kitten with skin issues and a mother cat with 3 kittens.

They also helped a cat who was hit by a car on Monday and is receiving treatment at the vets and an injured ginger and white cat that was found in Letterkenny and is now safely in AIN’s care.

In better news, it has been a good week for adoptions, with several cats and kittens going to live in their new homes.

Finally, the volunteers at AIN understand that times can be difficult and if anyone is struggling to buy cat or dog food for their pets, they can help.

Also, if you are feeding a neutered feral cat colony, this can be expensive, so please allow AIN to assist by providing food.

Food can be collected in Donegal Town or Letterkenny by arrangement, and all contacts are confidential.
