Tributes paid to Letterkenny volunteer and ‘lovely gentleman’ Gary Gomringer

Tributes have been paid on the death of Letterkenny resident Gary Gomringer, who was known for his contribution to the arts scene and the voluntary sector in the town.

Originally from Germany, he settled in Letterkenny after first coming to the town in the 1980s from the US to help with the start up of  Imed Ireland Ltd, later known as  Phillips Medisize. He fell in love with Donegal and moved to Letterkenny when he retired in 2000.

He became a popular figure in the community and was an active volunteer. Over the years, he was a volunteer in the Regional Cultural Centre and with the Errigal Arts Festival, was a member of the Ceol Le Cheile Choir and was involved in Rotary Club Letterkenny and the Donegal Intercultural Platform.

“We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend and long-time RCC volunteer Gary Gomringer,” the Regional Cultural Centre posted.

“Gary was always a pleasure to work with and had a fascinating life story that he loved to share. He will be missed by so many.”

“He was a lovely gentleman, a beautiful singer, and a beloved member of our Ceol Le Cheile Choir for several years,”  Veronica McCarron of Ceol Le Cheile said.

“Gary was a wonderful, friendly man - always had a story and a smile,” another tribute said.
