Plans have been lodged for a new motorcycle training area in Donegal.

Mark Cullen of the Cullen School of Motoring has sought planning permission for the proposed development at Stackarnagh, Churchill.

In an application to Donegal County Council, permission has been sought for an external motorcycle training area and a storage building containing an office and teaching room with ancillary accommodation.

The application provides for connection to a new septic tank and percolation area and all associated site works including parking.

The Cullen School of Motoring was established in 2019 and teaches the Initial Basic Training (IBT), a mandatory training course that teaches basic riding skills to learner motorcyclists. This is part of the RSA's Graduated Driver Licensing scheme and is taught by Mr Cullen as part of his overall training programme.

In supporting documentation for the application, it is noted that he currently trailers two bikes to a premises in Letterkenny to carry out initial tuition.

“The practicality of this can be very much dependent on cars parking and pedestrians using the area,” it says. “Mark also prefers to introduce new riders to the road in a rural setting rather than in the centre of a busy town.”

The local authority is expected to confirm its decision on the application by November 19.
