Ballybofey resident fined for driving with insurance
A Ballybofey resident has been fined €200 for driving without insurance for a vehicle that Donegal District Court heard he had just purchased.
Caine Tubbs, 21, of 5 Blue Cedars, Ballybofey, was fined by Judge Éiteáin Cunningham at Ballyshannon Court €200 with five months to pay, however, he was not disqualified from driving.

Tubbs was charged with being the user of a car in Drumlonagher, Donegal Town, on March 5, 2025, for which neither the vehicle owner nor an exempted person would be liable for injury caused by the negligent use of the vehicle at that time, and for which there was not an approved policy of insurance, and therefore found contrary to Section 56 (1) & (3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, as amended by Section 18 of the Road Traffic Act, 2006.
Mr Rory O’Brien, solicitor for Tubbs, told the Court: “The vehicle was purchased on the day, and he was transporting it to his house.
“He is a 21-year-old man, and he is very sorry. He had the vehicle for a short period of time. It is foolish.”
