Three-year driving disqualification for man caught drink driving at Laghey

A 29-year-old man has been disqualified from holding a driving licence for three years, have been convicted of drink driving.

Conor Curran of 34 Rathfort Crescent, Common, Belleek, County Fermanagh was before Donegal Distict Court sitting in Ballyshannon on Wednesday, October 1. He admitted the offence of driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit at Carrick West, Laghey on June 30, 2024. 

Sergeant Jim Collins gave evidence that gardaí stopped the defendant’s black Mitsubishi at Laghey. A subsequent test in the garda station returned a reading of 67mcg per 100ml of breath. 

Solicitor Frank Dorrian told the court that his client was a family man who was not working. He came before the court with no previous convictions and had entered a guilty plea.

“I ask that the disqualification be postponed for six months,” said the solicitor.

Sergeant Collins said that gardaí had no objection to the postponement.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham imposed a €200 fine and a three-year disqualification from holding a driving licence, effective from March 31.
