Lifford victim of mistaken identity kidnapping fined for drug driving

A man whose life "spiralled out of control" after he was the victim of a mistaken kidnapping has appeared in court for  drug driving.

Christopher Mitchell, 41, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

He was charged with drink driving when stopped by gardaí at Canal Road on May 12, 2024.

Mitchell, of Finnside Close in Lifford was also charged with possession of drugs when he was caught with €5 of cannabis at Ballymacool in Letterkenny on August 27, 2024.

Solicitor for the accused, Gordon Curley, said his client had received "horrific injuries" as a result of what he called a mistaken identity kidnapping in 2020.

Mr Curley said his client's life has spiralled out of control since and that he has not worked.

Judge Ciaran Liddy fined the accused man €100 and banned him from driving for one year.
