An award-winning film about Donegal’s defective blocks crisis will be shown in select free screenings at Buncrana Cinema.

Galar will be screened for free in Buncrana Cinema at 8:15pm on Monday, October 20, Wednesday, October 22 and Thursday, October 23.

Sharing the news, Cllr Joy Beard of the 100% Redress Party said: “This powerful film tells an important story, and I’m delighted local audiences will have the chance to see it right here in our community.”

Galar was directed by Donegal man Niall Duffy, and scenes from it were filmed in the county. It is based on real-life experiences of homeowners in Donegal affected by the defective blocks crisis.

The film follows determined father Michael Gallagher who fights to save his crumbling home and also battles a personal health crisis.

Galar has received widespread acclaim since its release, picking up awards on the film festival circuit. The film was awarded Best Irish Short Film and Best Actor for Mark Loughran at the Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival. Recently, Loughran won the Best Actor award at the Disappear Here Film Festival in Ballyliffin.
