The charity 5k will be held in memory of Helen McIntyre, who died in July.
A fundraiser in memory of a much-loved Greencastle woman has raised more than €2,000, and counting, for a cancer charity.
Mother and grandmother Helen McIntyre passed away following illness in July 2025.
A 5-kilometre walk and run is taking place in memory of Helen in Greencastle on Saturday, October 18, with everyone welcome to come along.
The charity event is being organised in association with Aine Havlin Fitness, and it will start and finish at Aine’s gym in Greencastle.
All proceeds raised will go to Cancer Care West, which helped Helen and her family immensely through her illness.
So far, more than €2,150 has been raised for the charity.
“Mum stayed in the on-site accommodation funded by Cancer Care West while receiving her treatment in Galway. She also availed of the many wonderful supports provided by Cancer Care West throughout her treatment,” explained a family member.
“She was treated with care and compassion throughout her illness, and it is an amazing service. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.”
A native of Bundoran, Helen had worked for many years in the former Allied Irish Bank in Moville, and she was also a valued Director of Inishowen Credit Union [formerly Foyle Credit Union], contributing countless voluntary hours to the community organisation.
“Helen served with great dedication as Chairperson of Foyle Credit Union and Vice Chairperson of Inishowen Credit Union,” said an Inishowen CU spokesperson.
“Her commitment to the Credit Union and her local community will always be remembered.”
