St Johnston residents, businesses left angry after graffiti and damage to property

Residents and business people in St Johnston have been left irate after a spate of wanton vandalism overnight.

Some sectarian and anti-immigration graffiti was daubed on the road at Church Lane, close to the junction with the R265, the main Lifford-Derry road.

Signage for a local business and Donegal County Council signage in the same area was defaced in the incident which occurred under the cloak of darkness. 

The front door of a residential property was also attacked in a similar manner.

“The community here won’t take this lying down,” one businessperson told Donegal Live. “I was absolutely  horrified to see this in the morning on way to work.

“This is something that will be a waste of everyone’s valuable time, money and resources.

“This isn’t for our wee town when people are trying to come together.”

An Garda Síochána say they received a report of criminal damage to a commercial premises at Church Street, St Johnson, which occurred sometime between 6pm on October 17, 2025 and 8:50am on October 18.

“Investigations ongoing,” a spokesperson said.
