Letterkenny and Sligo hospitals among most overcrowded in country in October

Across the month of October, there were 708 admitted patients awaiting beds at Letterkenny University Hospital with a further 778 at Sligo University Hospital

The two hospitals in the north west were among the most overcrowded hospitals in the country during October.

Nationwide, the total number of admitted patients waiting for beds in October was 9,643, according to figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).

Across the month of October, there were 708 admitted patients awaiting beds at Letterkenny University Hospital.

At Sligo University Hospital, there were 778 patients in a similar position.

The figure at Sligo University Hospital is the highest on record for the month of October and the number is the second highest for October at Letterkenny University Hospital. In October 2021, there were 943 admitted patients awaiting beds.

Only University Hospital, Limerick (1,742), Cork University Hospital (1,017) and University Hospital, Galway (916) had more patients waiting on beds in October.
