Not for the first time, members of the public had a lucky escape on Halloween night in Buncrana after fireworks were thrown at passers-by.

Gardai are investigating several incidents of fireworks being set off on the town's Main Street throughout Friday evening, October 31st, into the early hours of Saturday morning, November 1st.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that they had received several reports of incidents of fireworks being set off in the Main Street area of Buncrana during the Halloween festivities on Friday and Saturday.

“No injuries have been reported at this time. Enquiries are ongoing,” confirmed the Garda spokesperson.

It is illegal to import, hold, sell, or use fireworks without a licence in Ireland.

This was the latest frightening incident involving fireworks in Buncrana. Only three weeks ago, Inishowen County Councillor Jack Murray had urged people to stop dangerously using fireworks before someone is seriously injured.

The plea by the Sinn Féin Councillor was issued after he was contacted by several concerned locals in a similar incident, after fireworks were also thrown at passers-by on that occasion as well.

Mercifully, no one was injured in the frightening incident, but a number of people were very intimidated.

“A few people have contacted me about fireworks being thrown at people. It's extremely dangerous,” he warned. “Young kids and vulnerable people have been left very shaken by this,” added Councillor Murray.
