Gardaí say these types of incidents appear to be on the rise with a number of thefts from vehicles in the Donegal Town area recently.
Motorists are advised to always ensure vehicles are locked regardless of whether it is parked at home or in a public area.
Gardaí are also advising the public not to leave valuables such as cash, electronics or jewellery in vehicles, and to try to park in a well-lit location if possible.
If tools must be kept in a vehicle, make sure it is always locked when unattended, have tools properly marked, and keep a record of them with individual markings or photographs.
Any suspicious activity witnessed around vehicles should always be reported to gardaí immediately.
