Looking for a bargain this Christmas? The Mullan Hope Centre is providing the community with a chance to give back and pick up some pre-loved goods, as they gain a new purpose ahead of the festive season.
The Mullan Hope goodwill shop is currently open on Moville’s Main Street, where dedicated volunteers offer a wide variety of donated goods.
Owned by neighbouring business Healthwise and active for around 15 years, the charity shop gives local organisations an important extra source of income and support, with a different good cause taking charge of the premises every six weeks.
One of the shop volunteers, Ethna Doherthy, labels the shop as “very important” and views it as a valuable resource for the town. She also says that: “Voluntary work gives people a sense of purpose.”
The Mullan Hope Centre has commandeered the shop for the coming weeks in a bid to give back to local charities and groups, with all profits going directly back into the community.
Founded in June 2021 by inspirational Moville woman Geraldine Mullan, The Hope Centre has been a fixture in the area, providing regular farmers’ markets and other well-attended events to raise funds for various deserving causes.
Geraldine says “charity begins at home”, praising people's generosity with their donations so far.

Due to damage caused by recent storms, the Mullan Hope Centre is currently inactive, but this hasn't stopped the organisation from branching out into the community.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday, from 10am until 5pm, and is under the Mullan Hope Centre’s administration until December 5 next.
The charitable organisation’s goal is to help out as many people as possible during this time of year, when many families can be under pressure.
Geraldine smiles: “Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.”
