The accused man appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court
An Inishowen man has pleaded guilty to the reckless discharge of a rifle.
Eamon Grant was before Letterkenny Circuit Court to affirm a signed guilty plea previously entered at Carndonagh District Court.
The 60-year-old, of Gortfad, Clonmany, was asked by the court clerk if he was affirming his plea and Grant said: “Yeah”.
Grant was charged with an offence on June 8, 2023, at Gortfad, Clonmany.
He was charged that he did while committing an offence, the reckless discharge of a firearm, contrary to section 8 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, in the course of a despite, produce in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person an article capable of inflicting serious injury, to wit, a .22 Unique rifle and ammunition.
The offence is contrary to section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990
Barrister for Grant, Mr Gareth McGrory BL, instructed by Ciaran Mac Lochlainn, asked for a probation and welfare report to be prepared on his client.
Mr McGrory said that there was a “certain background” to the case which he described as “quite unite”
Judge Aylmer asked for an assessment as to Grant’s suitability for community service and adjourned the case until the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
