Dunfanaghy man in court after damaging brother's caravan

A Dunfanaghy man has appeared in court charged with damaging his brother's caravan.

Patrick McFadden, aged 40, is charged that on March 3, 2024, he did without lawful excuse damage property, to wit, a caravan door, contrary to section 2(1) criminal damage act 1991.

Falcarragh District Court heard the caravan belonged to the brother of the accused.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Jason Laverty, told the court that there was an ongoing family dispute behind the incident.

He said his client had arrived at his brother's caravan and a heated exchange had developed.

A door on the caravan had then inadvertently been damaged, he added.

Judge Emile Daly wondered: "Inadvertently?"

The court was told that the accused, of Derryreel, Dunfanaghy, has previous convictions but only for road traffic.

Mr Laverty said the accused had proposed to pay €200 by way of compensation to his brother and added that he hoped the court could see a way of striking the matter out.

Judge Daly adjourned the case to allow the €200 to be paid and indicated she would strike out the matter if this was done.
