A former Liverpool captain who lifted the European Cup is on his way to Letterkenny. 

Peak Top Agency and the Mount Errigal Hotel have taken the likes of Martin O'Neill, Mick McCarthy, John Aldridge, Tony Cascarino, Steve McMahon, Sammy Lee, Kevin Sheedy and John Barnes to the north-west in the past.

Central defender Thompson played as a defender for Liverpool on 340 occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, wininng 42 England caps including six as captain. At Anfield, he won seven First Division titles, the 1974 FA Cup, three League Cup, the Charity Shield on five occasions, the Uefa Cup twice and the European Cup in 1977, 1978 and 1981, where he lifted the trophy in Paris following the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid. He later represented Sheffield United for two seasons.

After retiring as a player, he later served Liverpool as assistant manager and acted as caretaker for six months while manager Gérard Houllier was ill in 2002. He was a pundit on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports for 22 years until 2020.
