Letterkenny AC marathon runners raise €4,000 for Donegal Hospice

Letterkenny Athletic Club members who completed the Dublin Marathon last month have raised €4,000 for the Donegal Hospice.

A total of 19 runners wearing the black and amber vest used their participation in the annual event to raise funds for the Donegal Hospice which has been providing palliative care in the community since 1989. The Donegal Hospice building was opened in Letterkenny in 2003.

Speaking at the cheque-handover in Sister Sara's Bar and Restaurant, Letterkenny AC Chairman, Raymond Birch, said: “Letterkenny AC has a longstanding tradition of raising money for local charities, groups and organisations who do such valuable work in our community through the Dublin Marathon. This year we selected the Donegal Hospice, and I thank all our members who ran for the cause this year in the Dublin Marathon.”

Letterkenny AC member, Darren Price, who was among the 18,486 competitors who finished the 2025 Dublin Marathon, was also the main organiser of the fundraiser.

“The Donegal Hospice is such a vital and much needed service for the people of Donegal, and the response we got this year to our fundraiser shows just what can be done. When everyone does a little, a lot can be achieved. All donations received are very much appreciated,” Darren commented.

Extending her thanks on behalf of the Donegal Hospice, Isobel Doherty, Chairperson of The Donegal Hospice Directors CLG, said: “We were absolutely delighted when Darren called in to tell us that Letterkenny Ac had raised €4,000 through its members running the Dublin Marathon back in October. We are most grateful for all your efforts and for choosing the Donegal Hospice as the main beneficiary this year.”

The Letterkenny AC members who completed the 2025 Dublin Marathon which attracted a record number of finishers were Mark Nee, Michael Harkin, Darren Price, Derek Campbell, Gary Kearns, Marie Boyle, Adrian Callaghan, Christopher McMenamin, Conor McDaid, Daithi Tracey, Diane Bustard, Suzi Comerford, Stevie Shiels, Eoghain McGinley, Ciaran McGonagle, Caroline McGonagle, Stephen McAuley, Sean McNulty and Michael Black.

Dublin Marathon Sunday alss proved a fruitful day for the club’s senior men’s team, with the trio of Stephen McCauley (2:17) Eoghain McGinley (2:23) and Ciaran McGonigle (2:35) securing bronze medals.
