Killybegs Community Council launches Christmas lights appeal

Appeal launched to help Killybegs Christmas decorations

Killybegs Community Council has launched a GoFundMe appeal, aiming to raise €26,000 to install permanent electrical points to help facilitate the ease of implementing Christmas lights in the future.

An online statement by the Killybegs Community Council said that the current implementation of Christmas light decorations in Killybegs takes “painstaking” work, requiring “over 250 hours of voluntary work by a small and dedicated team.”

So far, the GoFundMe page, which was launched this week, has raised over €3,000 of the €26,000 target.

The statement released read: “The Killybegs Community Council, with your help, plan now to make our festive lights and celebrations a little easier going forward.

“With your generous support, we plan to install permanent electrical points (“hard wiring”) throughout the town in 2026. This will greatly reduce the time and effort required each year and allow us to focus on expanding and improving our annual festive display.

“We’ve already secured some funding from local County Councillors' Development Fund Initiatives. These funds have allowed us to kickstart our plans for more sustainable and friendlier Christmas preparations, but we now need your help, the help of our wonderful community, to make our new Christmas lighting a reality.

“We understand Christmas is an expensive and demanding time, but any donation, big or small, is incredibly welcome and deeply appreciated by all.

“Your donation will help ensure Killybegs continues to shine bright at Christmas, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all.”
