National Bravery Awards to take place at Leinster House

A pair of Donegal men from opposite sides of the county are to be honoured today at the National Bravery Awards at Leinster House, Dublin.

Pat Condon, from Killybegs, and Kealan Dolan, of Ballyare, will be presented with their awards by Ceann Comhairle, Verona Murphy TD, in an event to be MC’ed by retired RTÉ presenter, Joe Duffy.

Killybegs’ Pat Condon will receive a Silver Medal and a Certificate of Bravery for his actions on a cold October night in 1988, when he rescued a crewmate from the sea off the Mayo coast.

As skipper of the MV Rosses Morn, Condon jumped in the water to save a crewmate who had gone overboard in the rough waters, despite not being able to swim himself.

Ballyare’s Kealan Dolan will be presented with a Bronze Medal and a Certificate of Bravery after saving the life of an incapacitated man from his burning home in Manorcunningham.

Recipients from Mayo, Galway, Clare, Kildare, Offaly, Roscommon, Dublin, Waterford, Cork, and Cavan will be amongst those honoured at the Leinster House ceremony, which begins at 12pm.
