A Downings man who shouted and screamed in a female Garda's face during an incident on a night out in Letterkenny has been fined €250.

Kevin Boyce, of Racharc na Mara, Downings, appeared at Letterkenny District Court. The 40-year-old accused was seen in an altercation with another man at Lower Main Street at 2.45am on October 27, 2024.

The court heard that when Gardai approached Boyce, he began to shout and scream in the face of a female Garda.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court would not give his name or any other details to Gardai and he was then arrested. Solicitor for the accused, Mr Kieran O'Gorman, said his client was employed but that he had taken on too much alcohol on the night in question.

He added that his client wished to apologise to the court and to Gardai for his behaviour on the night. Judge Emile Daly said Gardai should not have to deal with such behaviour when carrying out their duty. She fined Boyce €250 and gave him four months to pay the fine.
