Finnbarr Roarty popped into the Ardara Care Of The Aged-Day Centre (ACOTA).

ACOTA are a registered charity providing day services for elderly people in Ardara. The group were excited to see Donegal doing well in the All-Ireland and were delighted to welcome Finnbarr for a visit.

The nineteen-year-old, who is studying to be a social worker at Ulster University Belfast, won a GAA/GPA All-Star award as well as the Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Additionally, he helped his local club - Naomh Conaill - to success in the Donegal SFC, where they beat Gaoth Dobhair in September.

“Look who popped in to see us today,” Volunteer Kathleen Mallon said. “The wonderfully talented Finnbarr Roarty and his Ardara Super-Mum Paula. A big shout out to his Ardara Granny Bernadette Bonner and his Glenties Granny Kitty Roarty, who were unable to attend. Thank you, Finnbarr, for being so generous with your time.”

At ACOTA every Monday and Tuesday, senior citizens come and enjoy a 3-course meal, have a chat, take part in guided chair exercises to improve their strength & mobility, play Bingo, Cards, or perhaps take an Art Class.

The group aims to get people together to socialise and tackle loneliness among elderly people. There are about 50 to 60 people who attend regularly; everyone is welcome. They also deliver meals for those who are unable to attend.

ACOTA is a volunteer-led service that relies mostly on donations. For donations to ACOTA, please contact Chairman Donal Haughey on 086 234 1061
