The 2025 Donegal Yearbook is available in shops now - a must-have addition to the festive season, where we look back on a year of remarkable events, achievements, and unforgettable moments across the county.
As always, the Donegal Yearbook reflects the people and the personality of the county. Donegal was awash with green and gold in July as the senior footballers made it to only their fourth All-Ireland final ever. Things didn’t go their way that afternoon at Croke Park against Kerry, although anyone who followed the team all summer felt like it was a step back in time, back to when Jimmy was winnin’ matches.
The panel were afforded a pride-filled homecoming in Donegal Town the following evening, when the rain fell in sheets and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
There were also notable sporting successes on an international stage, with boxer Roisin Hegarty, jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle and athlete Mark English showing their class. Seamus Coleman has been on that stage for quite some time now, and his reintroduction to the Republic of Ireland squad helped secure a World Cup play-off spot following a remarkable conclusion to the qualifying campaign.
Closer to home, some of the tragedies that Donegal will forever carry - the Evelyn Marie, Owencarrow and Arranmore - were remembered.
Donegal has some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable, although perhaps the main reason it’s so special is because of its people, some of whom we try to do justice to. As we bring this annual to a close, we also look ahead to 2026, to the hopes, stories, and possibilities that lie ahead, and to another year in which the people of Donegal will no doubt continue to inspire through their remarkable spirit, resilience and pride of place. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you enjoy this very special edition of the Donegal Yearbook.
As 2025 draws to a close, we survey the best of the festive season, featuring a full listing of Christmas and New Year events, as well as a glimpse of what 2026 has in store. So, relax, and pick up a copy of the Donegal Yearbook 2025 - brought to you by the Donegal team.
