St Eunan's Court, Letterkenny
Donegal County Council refused a planning permission application to build two apartments in Letterkenny.
Planning applicant, Martin McGettigan, had applied for the erection of two apartments with connection to all public services including all other associated site development works at St Eunan’s Court, Letterkenny.
The lack of car parking for the new properties was a major reason for the refused permission.
Donegal County Council’s Senior Executive Planner signed a document for the proposal’s refusal, which stated that: having regard to the overall siting and location of the proposed apartment building, the constrained nature of the subject site and the lack of car parking facilities available and proposed, it is considered that the proposed development, if permitted, would constitute the disorderly over development of the constrained plot in a manner which would by itself, and by undesirable and unsustainable precedent.”

In trying to convince the council about the adequate parking space, Trevor Robb, for Michael Friel Architects, on behalf of the applicant, wrote: “Carparking within the establish St. Eunan’s Court which I have studied over the last few months at different times of the day and night.
“The main carparking is mostly full during working hours, all the existing houses have parking outside their property, there is an over flow parking area… that is always never full day or night, so the two additional apartments can park there or use Skittle Alley which is free after hours.”
This application was the second attempt at gaining planning permission for two extra apartments at St Eunan’s Court, after an incompleted application was withdrawn in May 2024.
