Wet and blustery to begin today, Sunday, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning heavy at times, with a yellow weather warning for rain having been issued for Donegal.
Met Éireann advised of a heightened risk of flooding over the weekend. The alert came as heavy rainfall is expected to fall on ground that is already saturated following recent unsettled conditions.
The warning took effect from 6pm on Saturday, 13 December, and will remain in place until midnight on Monday, 15 December.
With high river levels and saturated soils, river and surface water flooding are likely, particularly in the west. Winds will ease this afternoon. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, easing light to moderate southwest to west this afternoon.
Outbreaks of rain will gradually clear eastwards early tonight, with clear spells and just a few showers following from the west. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees. Winds will ease mostly light southerly or variable with mist and fog patches forming.
Most parts will be dry tomorrow, Monday, with just the chance of the odd shower. The best of the sunshine will be further to the west, once early mist and fog patches clear. It will be somewhat cloudier in the east.
