Spraoi agus Spórt launches innovative programmes for people with additional needs

‘These programmes give people the chance to discover their abilities, develop new skills, and take meaningful steps toward employment in sectors they’re genuinely interested in’

Award-winning Carndonagh social enterprise Spraoi agus Spórt has announced two groundbreaking training programmes designed to provide people with additional needs across Inishowen with practical skills, workplace experience, and clear pathways to employment.

The new My Slí: Power Up! Game Development and Coding Camp and My Slí: Craft Makers programmes represent an innovative approach to inclusive skills development, combining hands-on learning with real-world work experience in supportive, accessible environments.

My Slí: Power Up! offers participants aged 16 and above an entry-level introduction to computer game design, coding, and digital creativity. Delivered in partnership with Kippie, the inclusive coding experts, the programme will build practical skills in coding and game design while developing confidence, self-expression, and essential workplace communication skills.

My Slí: Craft Makers provides training in product manufacture and design within a real-life social enterprise setting. Participants will create commercial-quality craft products while gaining practical experience in workplace health and safety, design processes, and the realities of running a social enterprise focused on creating employment for people with disabilities.

Both programmes run one day per week over six sessions starting in early 2026, with places limited to ensure personalised support and meaningful learning experiences.

John Peto, operations manager at Spraoi agus Spórt, said: “These programmes reflect our commitment to creating genuine opportunities for people with additional needs in Inishowen. We're not just teaching skills—we're building confidence, opening doors, and showing that with the right support and environment, talent can be unlocked and career opportunities opened up. Whether participants are passionate about gaming and technology or drawn to creative craft making, My Slí provides a supportive stepping stone toward employment and independence.”

The My Slí programmes are part of Spraoi agus Spórt's expanding portfolio of learning and development opportunities for Inishowen people and communities. The organisation, which was recently honoured as Best Business in the Community at the All-Ireland Community & Council Awards 2025, has grown from providing 100 weekly places in 2011 to over 700 today, serving children, young people, adults, and families across the peninsula.

Helen Nolan, CEO of Spraoi agus Spórt, added: “My Slí represents everything we believe in at Spraoi agus Spórt—inclusive opportunities, practical support, and real pathways to better futures. These programmes give people the chance to discover their abilities, develop new skills, and take meaningful steps toward employment in sectors they're genuinely interested in.”

The programmes are delivered through Spraoi agus Spórt's WorkAbility initiative, co-funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Social Protection and the European Union.

WorkAbility supports up to 5,000 people with disabilities nationwide to progress their employment ambitions through person-centered approaches and comprehensive support.

Places are limited for both programmes. Interested participants or family members can find out more by contacting 085 860 1834 or visiting www.spraoiagussport.ie.
