The local community of Carrickmore, St Johnston came together for a festive tractor run in aid of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

The €5077.05 will directly support local services for people living with dementia and their carers in Donegal. The cheque presentation took place on December 15 at Maggie’s Tavern, where it was presented to Jennifer Carr, Support Services Coordinator, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

The fundraiser was organised by Alice Lynch, owner of Maggie’s Tavern. Alfie Lynch and his wife, Maureen, have taken part in many tractor runs in aid of charity over the past 30 years.

Alfie’s family, Pearl Bradley and John Vance generously donated spot prizes to the fundraiser, while Maggie’s Tavern hosted an auction to boost fundraising efforts. The event was full of festive cheer with Santa making a special appearance. Participants were treated to a hearty bowl of stew from Maggie’s Tavern at the halfway point to keep spirits high and welcomed back for refreshments after the tractor run.

“Alfie Vance and his wife Maureen always took part and supported the tractor runs in the last 30 years for numerous charities,” Alice Lynch, Owner of Maggie’s Tavern, said: “The Alzheimer Society of Ireland was chosen this year to remember and honour loved ones who are never forgotten from the local community. We are delighted with the overwhelming amount of support.”

Jennifer Carr, Support Services Coordinator, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, said: “We are so grateful to Alice, Maggie’s Tavern and the entire Carrickmore community for choosing to support The Alzheimer Society of Ireland with this wonderful fundraiser. A huge thank you to everyone who joined and donated - the generosity and community spirit made this event unforgettable.”
