Letterkenny man caught with cannabis is fined in court

The man was found in possession of cannabis

A Letterkenny man found in possession of cannabis on two occasions has been fined in court.

Martin McDonagh was before Letterkenny District Court after being caught in possession of amounts of €20 and €40 of cannabis.

The charges related to October 24, 2024 and May 27, 2025 at his home, at Solomons Hill, Letterkenny.

The 22-year-old McDonagh has 17 previous convictions, including one for the possession of drugs. He also has a conviction for assault causing harm and 10 for using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in public.

Mr Rory O’Brien, solicitor for McDonagh, said his client had a “significant amount of difficulty” in the past.

However, Mr O’Brien said McDonagh, who is very skilled with horses, is “doing very well” now and is hoping to re-engage in construction work. Mr O’Brien said these amounts were small and were for personal use.

On both charges, Judge Emile Daly convicted McDonagh and fined him €100. He was given three months to pay.
