The alleged incident happened at Letterkenny University Hospital

A Donegal man who was just released from prison was returned to custody after committing similar offences that had him locked up for two months.

Josh Cullen was recently given a back-dated three-month prison sentence, with the final month suspended, for a series of bizarre offences in Letterkenny.

The 22-year-old with an address at Avondale House, St Eunan’s Court, Letterkenny, was dealt with at Letterkenny District Court on December 15, 2025.

Cullen was back before Judge Emile Daly again for offences committed the following day, December 16, 2025. He appeared via video link from Castlerea Prison.

He was charged with offences at Letterkenny University Hospital on that date.

Cullen was charged that he did trespass on a building, the staff supply room at LUH. The charge is contrary to Section 13 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 as amended by section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008.

Cullen was further charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, contrary to section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 as amended by section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008.

He was also charged with criminal damage of a fire alarm, contrary to section 2 (1) of the Criminal Damage Act, 1991.

“This was a similar offence the day after he was dealt with in court,” Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court.

Mr Frank Dorrian, solicitor for the accused, said there was “an impulsive irrationality going on” and added that his client was attempting to raise a protest claiming that the HSE was failing to provide him with adequate medical care.

Judge Emile Daly said that the incidents “also inflict harm on other people”.

Mr Dorrian said there was a “disconnect between cause and effect” and asked for his client to be produced before the court on the next occasion.

Mr Dorrian told Cullen that a bail application was “not an option here” as it “would be unsuccessful”.

Mr Dorrian added: “We will do everything that we can, but you have a role too and that is not to be doing these things”.

Cullen was remanded in custody to appear before Letterkenny District Court on January 5.
