The Letterkenny Community Development Project (CDP) has announced an expanded schedule of free, confidential outreach services throughout the county.

The initiative, led by outreach worker Karen Gallen, aims to dismantle the barriers and stigma often associated with seeking help for drug and alcohol misuse by providing a community-first response.

The service integrates several evidence-based clinical practices to provide a professional suite of supports. Individuals and families can access Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to help change patterns of thinking, alongside Mindfulness practices for stress management. Additionally, the program incorporates SMART Recovery Principles and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy to ensure participants have practical tools for building a balanced life.

The service emphasises accessibility through a rotating schedule of drop-in clinics at local Family Resource Centres, ensuring help is available within the heart of the community.

In the Finn Valley Family Resource Centre, sessions are available every Monday and Wednesday morning from 9am to 1pm. Those in the St Johnston and Carrigans area can access the Family Resource Centre on Monday afternoons between 2pm and 5pm, while the Raphoe Family Resource Centre hosts drop-in hours every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 5pm.

For residents who prefer a more tailored approach, the Donegal Town Family Resource Centre and Letterkenny CDP offices offer sessions by appointment only for Finn Valley clients. Recognising that travel or physical attendance isn't always possible, the project also facilitates home visits and online appointments by prior arrangement to ensure no one is left without support.

The Letterkenny CDP remains committed to providing non-judgemental support, guidance, and education to drug and alcohol users, their families, and the wider community. The goal is to provide a safe space where individuals feel heard rather than lectured.

If you or a loved one are seeking support, you can contact Outreach Worker Karen Gallen directly at 087-3885080 or via email at karengallenstart@gmail.com.
