The road will be closed for a period of three hours.
The main R238 road between Quigley’s Point and Moville will be closed this evening, Monday, January 12.
Donegal County Council has not cited a reason for the emergency closure, which will be in place from 6pm until 9pm, but it’s understood that it’s to facilitate the removal of a lorry, which crashed near Redcastle earlier this morning.
The huge truck remains overturned in a field at Carrickmaquigley, on the Moville side of Redcastle village, and it will take a major operation to remove it.
A Garda spokesperson outlined details of the crash to Donegal Live this morning: “Gardai received a report of a single-vehicle road traffic incident at Carrickmaquigley, Redcastle, County Donegal, on 12th January 2026.”
“The incident, involving a HGV, occurred shortly after 7:30am. There are no injuries reported at this time.”
Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes where possible this evening, and to allow for additional travel time.
