A footpath in Letterkenny has been tripping up runners and pedestrians

A footpath in Letterkenny will undergo repairs after numerous pedestrians suffered falls.

The surface on the footpath on the Railway Road adjacent to McDonald's has been raised by tree roots.

The footpath was brought to the attention of councillors at the January meeting of Letterkenny-Milford municipal district. Cllr Michael McBride asked “that Donegal County Council take the necessary steps to repair the damage”.

He said that the current state of the path is “causing trips and falls to pedestrians and runners” and stated that he had been notified of two “severe” falls in particular.

“It certainly is a danger,” said Cllr McBride.

Cllr Tomás Seán Devine seconded the motion, adding that some footpaths in Ballymacool are in a similar state with “not enough lighting”.

David McIlwaine of the council’s Roads and Transportation team confirmed that “arrangements are being made” to repair the footpath at McDonald’s.
