The man appeared before Letterkenny District Court
A Donegal man faces a trial for alleged sexual offences against a girl under the age of 17.
The man, who is in his 40s and cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.
Detective Sergeant Sean Paul Barrett gave evidence of arresting the man under section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for the purpose of charge.
The man made no reply to two charges when they were put to him, the court heard.
The man is charged with offences which are alleged to have occurred on a date in April 2023.
He is charged with engaging in a sexual act, vaginal sex, with a child under the age of 17, contrary to section 3 (1) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act, 2006.
The accused faces a similar charge relating to an alleged act of oral sex.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for the matter to be sent forward to the Circuit Court.
The man was represented by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher.
Bail was granted on condition that the man not interfere with the alleged injured party or any witnesses in the case and provide a telephone number on which he must be contactable at all times.
Judge Emile Daly adjourned the matter until April 13 for the service of a book of evidence.
