Tragedy averted as passer-by rescues mum and daughter from rough Bundoran waves

Bundoran RNLI have issued a reminder for people to be vigilant and be aware of the dangers after a mother and her daughter were rescued from the water in Bundoran

A mother and daughter were rescued from the water after getting caught by a surge of waves in Bundoran today.

A local resident, who was out walking at the time and saw the incident unfold, entered the water and was able to bring the woman and the child to safety.

Bundoran RNLI have issued a reminder for people to be vigilant and be aware of the dangers.

“We know most people locally are aware of the risks on our beaches so we would ask the you to continue to be vigilant, especially on days were there are large waves that can push 50 to 100 meters past the shore line and catch people out,” a spokesperson said.

They added that but for the intervention of the local resident “it could be been a very different ending” to the incident”.

The spokesperson added: “If you see somebody in difficulty please immediately call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.  

“Let’s all work together to keep our town safe.”
