Inishowen’s Henry Girls are ‘delighted’ to launch a new collection of songs for children.

The album ‘Tracks in the Snow’ is targeted towards younger listeners, but may be enjoyed by all ages, as band member Lorna McLaughlin explains.

“Tracks in the Snow is inspired by the wonders of the winter season. Musically, it stays close to what people know us for, but it’s very much written with young ears in mind and the songs are playful, warm, and easy to sing along to, while still being something parents can enjoy too, we hope,” smiles Lorna.

“We’re very happy with how it turned out; we wanted to make something families could listen to together – on long car journeys, at bedtime, or dancing round the house!”

Even though the album is new out, the songs have been around for some time, as Lorna further explains.

“In 2015, we were commissioned by The Ark, a cultural centre for children in Dublin, to write a musical show, which was funded by the Arts Council. This gave us the time and space to develop it carefully and collaboratively.”

“We have performed the show dozens of times in the Ark over the years since, and then in 2021 it was filmed and became an online resource for schools in Ireland, with an accompanying classroom pack, in English and Irish.”

“We’re delighted to finally be releasing it as an album now, so it can be listened to by anyone, anywhere, at anytime.”

The Henry Girls have been thrilled with the feedback the album is already getting, including being named as Album of the Week on national radio.

“It has been getting a great response since its release, and we are particularly chuffed that 'Marty in the Morning' on Lyric FM made it album of the week in mid-January,” Lorna said.

“We’re looking forward to our Donegal launch on Bank Holiday Monday, February 2nd, at 3pm in the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, as part of Letterkenny Trad Week,” she added.

Tracks in the Snow by the Henry Girls is available to listen to on all the usual streaming services, while physical copies are also available to buy online at: www.thehenrygirls.com
