Pettigo GAA celebrates success

Pettigo GAA has been granted planning permission by  Donegal County Council to erect floodlighting around its sports pitch.

The sports pitch, situated next to Scoil Mhuire (St Mary’s) National School, will see the construction of six floodlights surrounding the pitch, after Pettigo GAA was granted planning permission.

It was said in Donegal County Council’s planner’s report that the development would “facilitate a range of youth to adult teams throughout periods when there is limited light, thus providing a significant benefit.”

Pettigo GAA has a men’s team that plays in the Junior Championship in Donegal.

Prior to the granted planning permission, Pettigo GAA had been fundraising to facilitate a Pitch Development Project. A campaign on idonate.com read: “This project will allow us to provide sager, modern, and more accessible features for training, matches, and community events - ensuring the future of Gaelic games in Pettigo for generations to come.”

Donegal County Council granted the proposal planning permission with five conditions, for the reasons of defining the permission, preserving the amenities of the area, preventing local water pollution, and removing the potential for significant disturbance to local ecology, reducing escape and spillage of light to sensitive areas, and in the interest of traffic safety.
