The Health Service Executive (HSE) is hosting a free, comprehensive training day in Letterkenny next month specifically designed for people caring for a family member or friend living with dementia.

The session will take place on Monday, March 2, at the Safetech building in Letterkenny, running from 10am to 4pm.

The workshop aims to provide caregivers with a deeper understanding of the various types and stages of dementia. Rather than focusing solely on clinical facts, the training emphasises the lived experience, helping families understand how the individual feels as the condition progresses.

A primary focus of the day is communication. Attendees will learn practical strategies to maintain meaningful connections and adapt their communication styles to better support their loved ones.

The event will be led by Gerry Farrell, a highly regarded specialist with over 40 years of experience in mental health and dementia care. Known for his work with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Trinity College Dublin, Farrell is recognised for his compassionate, person-centered approach to family dynamics.

While the training is free of charge, booking is essential as places are limited. To reserve a spot or request further information, contact Diane Donnelly at 087 2770103.
